55+ Communities

Welcome to Florida - the Home of 55+ Communities!

You've chosen the right state to spend your retirement years. With sunshine year-round, there are a plethora of communities to live an active or relaxed lifestyle and I can help you find the right fit.

There are large communities such as Sun City Center located south east of Tampa and The Villages which is located about 35 miles north of Tampa. Both communities span several miles and contain 1000’s of homes, town homes, villas, and ILFs (independent living facilities).

These areas are great for people who love to be around others and like lots of activities. There is always something going on: trips to various areas, restaurants, and attractions; swimming pools, tennis courts, golf, boating, and other sports; clubs to join, potluck suppers, and a wide variety of other social functions.

The other end of the spectrum would be a smaller 55+ community such as Heather Ridge in Dunedin, which limit residents to the 55+ age range but have very few activities other than the bocce court or swimming pool. Residents can mingle or keep to themselves.

Many communities are in between. For example The Groves in Land O’ Lakes boasts a very nice golf course, a community swimming pool, tennis courts, a fitness center, and a casual dining restaurant located within their gated community. There are both single-family homes and villas available. Lawn maintenance as well as basic cable is included in the HOA dues, which are paid quarterly. The villas go one step further with their 100% exterior maintenance; including lawn but adding tree and hedge trimming and weeding.

Some choices to consider when looking for the ideal 55+ community:

  • Do you want to be on a golf course?
  • Gated Community?
  • Is there a community pool or private pool?
  • Is there a restaurant inside the community?
  • Types of activities offered?
  • Clubs available?
  • Near or on water?
  • Does the community allow golf carts on the roads?
  • Are there tennis courts, fitness centers, other features?
  • Are there grocery stores, banks, etc., close by?
  • Programs offered?
  • Do they have a main clubhouse or activity area?
